Suite Retreat: Boutique Hotel Inspired Master Bedroom

Suite Retreat: Boutique Hotel Inspired Master Bedroom

Sorry for the delay today – I had a cupcake order and have decided to go cold-turkey on Diet Coke as of this morning = Eek! Well,  I am no longer covered in pink frosting and wanted to share our Master Bedroom with you today!

When our new home was under contract I knew we were going to be upgrading from a queen mattress to a king mattress and knew that meant new bedding! I was immediately in fabric overdrive! I could not wait to come up with a new plan for our master suite – there were two things I knew for sure:
1.          I wanted the room to have a “boutique hotel” feel
2.        I wanted a LARGE headboard
I feel like I accomplished both – and this is how I did it:

Custom Bedding in Robert Allen’s Ming Fret fabric in Steel covers the 4 Euro pillows as well as the duvet, brown/bronze faux alligator for the custom headboard, silver, brown & ivory cut velvet and taffeta stripe fabrics for the accent pillows and an exaggerated neck roll covered in metallic leather circles. The gray blanket is Ralph Lauren as is the bed skirt, paired with a silver Simply Vera Vera Wang coverlet.

The upholstered 8 ½ foot headboard was a custom piece – and brings its own since of swagger to our bedroom. The headboard is flanked by two demilune tables (which used to be my antique dining table, were re-painted champagne and bolted to the wall) with two metallic silver twig stools underneath (found at Target and were originally black). The large lamps are vintage from one of my favorite vintage stores to drop into in Tulsa – the same place I bought my very first vintage accessory 13 years ago: a light pink leather clutch with beading (which I still carry today, in fact it accompanied me to our rehearsal dinner) – I recovered the over-sized shades in ivory pleather and metallic trim. The faux bois wall installations will have their own post, complete with DIY tomorrow – inside a pair gold bamboo mirrors (contact me if you would like me to order them for you too!) Coffee table books representing our favorite hobbies are perched on “his & her” side – on my side Carleton Varney’s In the Pink Dorothy Draper America’s Most Fabulous Decorator and on Mr. Z’s side Golf Magazines Top 100 Courses You Can Play.

The desk is a vintage piece from a consignment store that I repainted in gray & silver – atop the desk framed photos (including 2 cactus and silver frames – wedding gifts from our favorite Tulsa store T.A. Lorton) and a Cindy Ciskowski glass lamp. The funky chair was found at a flea market and painted silver and the seat was upholstered in a gray & silver faux bois silk. Above a large leather & wood vintage piece of modern art.

Our Master Living Nook provides us with a great place to escape if the other is watching a football marathon or a chick flick! The custom brown velvet pin stripe sofa was a birthday gift from my mother five years ago when I moved into my first apartment alone – and was in need of a sofa! It boasts a few unique features that come with having a sofa tailor-made –for this sofa that included button detailing and pleating. The pillows repeat the Ming Fret pattern found on the bed, and a super cozy faux fur throw randomly found from Ann Taylor completes the sofa.  The two French antique chairs were found in an antique dealers attic (yes, attic) and hauled down by Mr. Z and I many years ago – after painting them a silver-gray I had them upholstered in cut velvet and silver leather for the formal living room in our last home – this fabric is also repeated on the bed helping to unify the space.

The rug was a house-warming gift from my MIL. The vintage glass & brass coffee table was my first purchase from Craigslist – found by the mama of these two lovely ladies! The modern art found at an antique store flanked by 2 collectable vintage brass octopus arc lamps – purchased at a thrift store and then professionally re-wired. The mirror was found at Burlington Coat Factory (yes, I know = random!) and the brass shelf sconces are vintage spotted at an antique store. The throw on the fireplace is actually a gigantic vintage table cloth that feels like a throw - and has the perfect silver stripe accents. Contact me if you are interested in ordering a fire screen like the one shown below.
